One of THE MOST popular problems we go to on cars, are EGR related.

Exhaust gases are recirculated before been allowed to escape, its very well and good in theory, but in practice, engines simply get clogged up.  On some early turbo diesel engines, you can buy blanking kits.  However in some instances by just blanking the egr’s might trigger the EML to appear on the dash, if it does, give us a call and we can “map the egr fault code out”, to stop it appearing again, and allowing your engine to breathe properly.

 

Take this BMW E61 530d as a case in point, despite only done 80,000  iles or so look how clogged up this EGR is.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We simply supply and fit a blankig kit in its place:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then we remap out any fault code relating to the EGR if it appear’s.

Another recent tune we completed was an early BMW 1 series, 118d, 122bhp engine.  in standard guise it produces 122bhp and 206lb ft.

After a full scan of car, there were a few issues that needed addressing.  Firstly the DPF, had already been removed, and as this was going to be used off road as a track car, we wrote the DPF out of the ECU memory.  Secondly the EGR was blanked off in readiness for the tune as well.

After writing a new custom stage 1 map, we should be power increased to 160bhp and 258lb ft.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Again this will be dyno’d later next month to prove our work.

We were recently asked to tune the above car for one of our customers.  In standard guise it produces 140bhp and 236lb ft.

After a full health check over car, we set about unleashing some more useable power, but not at the extent of damaging any drivetrain.

A stage 1 map was written to car, which should produce in the region of 185bhp and 302lb ft.

Bit of a beast in recently, bi turbo Audi A6, 312bhp 479lb ft stock. Stage 1 map written along with K&N filter upgrade.

Best as always with German MAF’s de oil them and blow out with air line, and clean out any leaves or debris in air filter housing then, start up first and run for a while to ensure no faults, prior to tuning.

We get asked this a lot, and our experience is anyway you can get more air in to an engine, has to be good.

The thing to consider is cost, whilst the inital outlay is on average between £40 to £60 depending on application, and OEM filter can be 50% less, the performance ones are typically guranteed for 1million miles. so Every service they just have to be cleaned out rather than replaced.

Recent ones include applications on Audi 2.0tdi, Audi Q7 3.0 tdi, Audi A6 3.0 Tdi, Range Rover Sport 2.7TDV6.

Another great Audi in this week for a tune up.  The A4 Avant is a lovely drive, but with a bit of weight, can struggle sometimes with some weight in it.

After another fault free diagnostic check we set to work.  Customer wanted more power for safer overtaking.

 

We wrote a stage 1 tune which whould give an increase of 45bhp and 66lb ft over standard.  Another satisfied customer.

We recently had this lovely Audi A3 in for a service and tune up.  Although no slouch in standard guise, customer wanted a little more.

After completing a diagnostic check, no faults were found anywhere on car, we set to work.

Although the car had done 111k it was good see it was still performing well.

With some tweaks and still within drivetrain tollorances, we managed to reach 225bhp and 340lb ft

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Whilst other company’s might get more bhp, we try for more torque wherever possible, for greater relaibility and smoother power delivery.

After a recent remap on a Mercedes ML 320cdi, we can report back that mpg has improved from 25mpg to 31mpg.

 

This represents a massive saving in fuel, 25% improvement.  Yet you can still enjoy the extra power generated from the remap as well.

So if you drive 10,000 you could get around 2500 extra free, bar the cost of the remap.

We were recently asked to tune a Mercedes ML W164, 320cdi 224bhp. Tuned, they should be good for 260bhp and 600nm. But the 211bhp engine, is detuned so gains are the same. Also if you buy a 280ML W164, it is detuned to 190bhp and 440nm..  The same engine is fitted to a variety of Mercedes Models, including E Class, C Class, G class, R class and S Class

Wherever possible, buy a lower BHP model which offers a better spec like leather, heated seats, etc… and the money saved could go towards a remap.
